Crisis/Immediate Mental Health Support

Vancouver Access and Assessment Centre (AAC)

For patients and their support people (family and friends) during a non-life threatening mental health and/or substance use issue. Open to walk-ins, 7:30 AM - 10 PM. They provide pathways for patients and families to access mental health and/or substance use services in Vancouver and offer an alternative to the Emergency department.

Resources and services. For mental health services, the CMHA recommends

  • Call 911 for help right away.

  • Go to your local emergency room. Residents of Vancouver can also go to the Access and Assessment Centre at Vancouver General Hospital from 7:30am to 10:00 PM.

  • Call 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433) for help any time of day or night, from anywhere across BC. It’s a free call.

First Nations Health Authority - Mental Wellness & Counselling

Mental Wellness and Counselling is designed to support clients who are in need of professional assistance to resolve emotional distress and enjoy greater wellness.​

Pain Support Line

Trained volunteers are available on Pain BC's support. Provides a safe space to talk about pain and its impact on your life, information on community resources, help with forms (disability), help finding a physician, information about pain, self-management, and Pain BC resources and programs.

Provides confidential, non-judgmental, free emotional support, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair. Phone or online chat.

Options for Sexual Health – Sex Sense phone line

Free and confidential sexual health resource and referral service. Information about birth control and emergency contraception, safer sex practices, queer sexual health, pregnancy options, abortion services, sexually transmitted infections, pap tests/pelvic exams, sexual pleasure, and more. Staffed by registered nurses, clinical counsellors, and sex educators.

Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre

24-hour Rape Crisis Line. Salal also provides free services: Accompaniments to hospital, police and courts, Assistance with Crime Victim Assistance forms, Victim Impact Statements and Third Party Reports, Outreach and Public Education, Aboriginal Outreach services for women and youth, Community and advocacy work, STV (Stopping The Violence) counselling: Individual and group support. BC Society of Transition Houses

A member-based, provincial umbrella organization that enhances the continuum of services and strategies to respond to, prevent, and end violence against women children, and youth. Warriors Against Violence

A prevention program, based on Indigenous talking circle teachings; meets two evenings per week, men and women, working to end family violence in Aboriginal communities.
